Your Busy Mind Isn’t Broken. It’s Just An Untrained Puppy

"The mind hasn’t gone wrong. It’s just untrained. It isn't a monster to be tamed, just a puppy that needs to be shown how to settle." Quote from Jules Bodger at All About Your Joy

Old Truths, New Tutors

I was out the back with the pups this morning, watching them navigate the world with that typical Labrador intensity and curiosity. Everything is a wonder and a bit of a chase to explore together.

It reminded me of something I wrote years ago in my book, A Simple Shortcut to Inner Peace & Joy. Back then, I was pointing to the same thing I’m pointing to now. The mind isn’t your enemy. It’s just an untrained companion.

Why the Mind Feels So Noisy

It’s funny how we forget that. We get so caught up in the noise of being an adult, the bills and the constant mental load, that we start to think our busy minds are just who we are. We think we’re broken or that peace is something we have to go out and hunt for.

But watching these two has re-inspired the analogy for me.

A puppy doesn’t need to be “fixed.” You don’t look at a young dog and think it’s fundamentally flawed. You just see energy that hasn’t learned where to put itself yet.

The Mind Is Like An Untrained Puppy

Your mind is the same. It’s been pulling on the lead for years, dragging you into yesterday’s regrets or tomorrow’s worries. It’s not doing it to be difficult. It’s doing it because it’s never been shown how to simply sit.

When I wrote that book, I wanted to show people the shortcut. And the shortcut hasn’t changed. It isn’t about adding more tasks to your day. It’s about subtraction.

Coming Home To A Sense of Ease

It’s about dropping the struggle and realising the peace you’re looking for is what’s left when you stop trying so hard.

Maybe it’s time to dust off those pages and update them for the world we’re living in now. Even though life has got a lot noisier, the way home is still just as simple.

It’s just a matter of learning how to lead the puppy with gentle discipline and kindness.

Joining the Global Pack

If you feel like your mind has been pulling you around lately, you don’t have to figure it out on your own.

We’re exploring this together inside the #LiveLikeYourDog 7-day challenge. It’s a simple, free experiment in letting the nervous system settle and showing the “puppy” how to sit. No complicated routines, just a return to the ease that’s already there.

You’re more than welcome to join us.
